Now face to face with what The Order had unleashed, Azrael must confront his past and become the man he wants to be. Kate and Lucas fight to figure out Ascalon’s true purpose and what The Order of St. Dumas will do to Azrael now knowing with little information they have that Ascalon is a self-improving program. Guess starring Zatanna, as Batman looks for answers of a fallen son.
What you need to know: Now knowing the truth about Azrael’s past and what The Order of St. Dumas has done in the previous issue. The team races to help Batman and Zatanna at The New Iceberg Lounge. Will Ascalon be too much for them?
What you’ll find out: An all-out fight verses Ascalon at The New Iceberg Lounge. Azrael comes face to face with the truth of what The Order has done. Batman wants to know the truth of what happened to… You’ll want to keep reading till the very end!”
What just happened? Las Vegas, Years Ago: Bruce sits on the roof of Casino on its neon lights; Zatanna appears next to him to have a conversation with a not so happy Bruce about magic. Bruce wants Zatara (Zatanna’s father) to teach him, but he won’t until he learns basic tricks. Looking at the city, Bruce is reminded of the lights of Gotham City. Telling Zatanna, there is no other city like it; it is if the city itself was alive.
Now: Zatanna helps Bruce suit up to fight Ascalon who has come to kill Brother Kodo. As Ascalon attacks, Zatanna uses her magic to stop him but Ascalon has a few tricks of his own. “Compensating. Threat Analysis Complete.” Enter Azrael, Cassandra, Batwoman, Clay Face, and Batwing. Not understating what he is looking at Ascalon tells Azrael that they are the same person. Grabbing Azrael to understand this new truth that has been revealed, Batman pulls blades from his back and jumps attacking Ascalon. The fight is stopped as Ascalon throws Batman off and leaves stating “I must seek the truth.”
The Belfry: Nomoz, still in bed recovering from his wounds is told that Brother Kodo has been killed. Saddened by what he has heard, he tells the team that every member of Decency in The Order are all gone.
Burnside: At Foxtech Lucas and Kate investigate on The Suit of Sorrows. Finding that itself is a smart suit, but limited to the confined of a person. Ascalon in the other hand is a living self-improving program to advance for their technology. This raises flags to Lucas who cannot hack into Ascalon, in return questioning Ascalon’s agenda and what it will do next.
Top of a Gotham City building: Batman and Zatanna talk about their past and of that night in Las Vegas. Looking down at the city, Zatanna tells Batman that he was always right about the lights in Gotham City; there is nothing like it. Switching the conversation, Batman wants answers and for Zatanna to use her magic. Hesitant, knowing magic always comes with a price; she tries to convince him to change his mind. “You don’t know what I’ve ALREADY lost, Zatanna.”
Meditating in his room Azrael tries to clear his mind of what has come to light, but something sinner still lurks for him.
Final Thoughts: The issue picks up directly where the last issue ended. Azrael still the center of this story with questions and truths coming from every corner. What is The Order of St. Dumas really up too? Why did Ascalon not recognize Azrael? Many question still need to be answered in the upcoming issues. Detective Comics, I must say is one of the best Batman comics in the lineup. With the team working together and helping each other as a team should, finding clues that will help them investigate the truth of what is going on, and also Batman’s side story has me wanting more. The new arc is becoming one to really look forward to and look out what will happen next. What Batman shows to Zatanna and what Azrael sees in his room in the final panel has made this comic a must read to find out what is next. Only negative thing I have is that the fight was too short, only leaving Batman to shine and Batwoman not feel as a leader.
