Writer: Tom King

Pencils/Inks/Colors/Variant Cover: Mitch Gerads

War continues to rage across New Genesis; Scott and Barda take a little break from chaos. As secrets begin to unfold, Scott Free questions his sanity and Orion as Highfather.

What you need to know: Granny Goodness has been killed. Now Orion feels it is time to take the fight to Apokolips, but not everyone feels that Orion is in the right state of mind. Scott Free tells a Christmas Story.

What you’ll find out: Back home, Scott Free tells a sleeping Barda a Christmas Story that Granny Goodness used to tell him as a child. While getting something to drink, Scott Free gets a visitor who tells him that Orion is losing it and Mister Miracle must do something.

What just happened? Living his normal life back on Earth, Scott Free tries to take a break from the madness that is happing back in New Genesis. As he hears what Orion is trying to do, he tells Barda he knows something is wrong with himself and needs to tell Orion the truth of what he feels; that maybe both of them have been compromised. Going back to New Genesis to talk to Orion, Mister Miracle and his new Highfather have things that need to be resolved before anything else can happen. Orion is not pleased.

Rating: 8.5/10

Final Thoughts: The static panels are back. Yes! I love seeing those static panels, it gives me that acknowledgment that there is something really messed up with Scott Free’s mind. I also love seeing Scott Free trying to live his normal life just wanting to be a “normal man”, but knowing that there’s a war going on back in New Genesis. It seems like it doesn’t bother him as he sits with Barda drinking coffee and taking selfies with fans. Since the last issue, we find out that there is also something wrong with Orion and here we see someone else say the same thing. What is really happening to Orion or better yet, is this just another episode in Scott Free’s mind? From that assault in the final pages, something is happening and it’s only going to get worse. “HAVE YOU SEEN THE FACE OF GOD!?!”
