Ladies and gentlemen, let’s go back to 2008: Iron Man has hit the big screens for the first time (lets ignore the 80’s). As everyone leaves their seats at the end of the movie, another scene pops up. Tony Stark walks in his house to find that someone else is here, Nick Fury of S.H.E.I.L.D.. Fury walks out of the shadows and tells him that he isn’t the only hero in the universe. That right there is where it all begins, one giant cinematic universe. Four marvel films later (The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Iron Man 2, Captain America), we arrive at May 4, 2012: The Avengers. It was the first-time comic fans had finally seen a superhero team assemble perfectly—not counting Fantastic Four— and the start of something grandiose.
Right now, as I am writing this (9:24 am), the Infinity War trailer has been released worldwide. The promised times are upon us, children!!
So…. Let’s break it down, shall we?
The trailer starts out with a foreign planet and Nick Fury going over the Avengers Initiative, “There was an idea…”. With each scene, different members of the Avengers would finish the quote, “…to bring together a group of remarkable people, to see if we could become something more, so when they needed us, we could fight the battles that they never could”. As each member recites part of the quote, we see Tony who appears to be near some destruction, contemplating. The next is of Bruce Banner who seems to have been beaten senselessly into the Sanctum Sanctorum with Doctor Strange and Wong looking shocked at what just happened. He’s in a hole, mind you, like it looks like he fell through the roof, several floors and into a hole in the ground, in his human form, as if the Hulk was beaten out of him. The next scene we have Wanda Maximoff aka The Scarlet Witch, with Vision in a bedroom and it appears that vision has given himself a more human look. He looks completely human, with the only noticeable thing being the soul stone in his forehead. They also seem to be having an intimate moment. The next scene is of Thor in a space ship, peering through its windows. After that, we see Bruce and Natasha in what appears to be Wakanda. Bruce is standing next to the Hulk-Buster arm.
Ok, so the trailer proceeds with Thanos monologuing about defeat, and we see Tony, Strange, Banner, and Wong in the Sanctum Sanctorum, most likely after Banner fell through the roof. Tony walks out to see what’s going on since people are running. We then see Peter Parker, Spider-Man, on a school bus and we see his spider sense go off, indicated by the hairs on his arms raising, and he turns around to see a machine floating over the city. The machine could possibly be a gateway for a portal, maybe for Thanos’s army to arrive through. The next couple of scenes are of Tony and the rest in a ravaged street. Next, we see Loki walking over some bodies, and he’s holding the tesseract, and it looks like he maybe handing over to someone, most likely Thanos.
Speaking of Thanos, we finally see him in the next scene walking through a portal, though not in his armor. His CGI has been improved since his first appearance in The Avengers post-credit scene. Back to the floating machine over New York, Spidey is in his new Iron Spider suit standing inside of the thing. The suit seems to have been inspired by Peter’s most recent suit in the comics with the glowing eyes and a subtle armor look to it. During the scene, we hear T’Challa aka Black Panther, addressing some high-ranking member of Wakanda to evacuate the city. Next scene is of Thor who is inside a machine, pulling on it, with T’Challa continuing by ordering to activate all defenses. After that we see one of the Black Order members, Proxima Midnight, throw her spear at someone, who catches it easily. T’Challa then says to, “Get this man a shield”, and its revealed that it was Captain America who caught Midnight’s spear. Scarlet Witch, who is in the same scene, sighs with relief and joy. Most likely, Proxima Midnight is fighting Scarlet Witch and Cap comes in to save her.
The Hulkbuster also makes a return in Wakanda, so there’s that, though it looks like an upgraded version. We also see a building falling from the sky in Wakanda and Cap and Panther are fighting off some aliens, sent by Thanos. In the next scene, Thanos slams Spidey down by his throat and chokes him. Tony does seem to be at the same place and watches it happen before him. Over to Vision, he is down on his back with what seems to be Corvus Glaive and Proxima Midnight standing over him, and Corvus rams his blade into Vision’s mind stone. Thanos then puts the space stone in his gauntlet, and we see that he has two in his possession, the other being the power stone. I speculate that he managed to get the power stone from the Nova Corps. As he shows off the gauntlet with the two stones in it, he beats down on Tony who’s in a new suit, like always. It does have three blue reactors (main one, then two smaller one sup top), like his suit in the Ultimate Universe, so that’s nice.
The final portion of the trailer is of the Battle of Wakanda and we see Bucky Barnes standing next to some Wakandan soldiers with Black Panther leading the charge and Cap and Bucky behind on his left. We then get an over-the-shoulder view of Falcon flying into the battle, and see the Hulkbuster fighting too. In a Lord of the Rings fashion, the two armies race towards each other and we see the line up of Captain America, Winter Soldier, Black Widow, Black Panther and one of his body guards, War Machine, Falcon, and the Hulk.
The last scene is of Thor with only one eye. He turns around in the ship he was in earlier all beaten up and he asks, “Who the hell are you guys?”. We see that he was addressing the Guardians of the Galaxy, and the ship he was in earlier, was in fact, The Milano. As for the Guardians, we see Star Lord, Teen Groot, Gamora, Mantis, Rocket and Drax. I’m surprised Nebula isn’t there as she wants to kill Thanos, but maybe she’ll make an appearance somewhere in the movie.
The movie will be released May 4, 2018, and for those who haven’t noticed, the first Avengers movie came of May 4, 2012. That’s what I call a throwback.
