Gwenom VS Shield (Spider Gwen #26 Comic Review)

Spider-Gwen #26

Writer: Jason Latour

Interior and Cover Artist: Robbi Rodriguez

What You Need to Know: After attempting to get revenge for her father’s attack, Gwen was forced to make a choice: Rhino or Matt Murdock. When the choice was made for her, she spiraled out of control mentally and realized that the Venom symbiote is too much for her to handle. Emotionally and physically. Meanwhile, her friends have not given up hope in finding her, wither she could be Spider Woman or not!

In This Issue: Gwen is hungry, in spite of the impressive list of foods she’s chowed down on. Nothing seems to appease her appetite. Upon seeing the Bodega Bandit, a recurring comedic character, rob a grocery store clerk right in front of her, she realizes that all of her appetites are out of control. The next day, information of her sighting is given to the cops and Detective DeWolff who are beginning to get concerned for Spider Woman. Their concern had been mounting since Captain Stacy was put into the hospital. A “Have You Seen Our Friend?” sign printed by Mary Jane and her friends. Turns out, the posters have the Parkers looking for Gwen too!

Meanwhile, Gwen has asked her Universe’s Reed Richards to help her break into S.H.I.E.L.D.’s base to confront Cindy Moon, the creator of the Radioactive Spider, the same one that bit Gwen in the first place. Feeling Linda owes her some answers, Gwen easily finds Linda waiting for her and more then ready to talk. But not about what Gwen was hoping for, in fact it’s just as venomous as the spider bite. Spider Woman must make another hard choice if she is going to defeat Matt Murdock. But she has to hurry, S.H.I.E.L.D. is coming for Gwen and the Venom symbiote, with the perfect person to take her down. Captain America herself!

Summary
Oh, poor Gwen!! The writing for this issue is spot on, especially between Gwen and Linda. You are so ready for the interaction between the two but the conversation is so well written you can’t help but laugh, cry and get mad all at once. The art, as always by Robbi Rodriguez, is wonderful. Gwenom’s look still creeps me out as she gets darker and darker in her mental journey. I’m also excited to see more Captain America and Gwen together.
