They Said the Age of Heroes Would Never Come Again

It’s said that our universe is always expanding, getting bigger, forever changing, etc. DC Comics newest announcement has proven that to be even truer as The New Age of DC Heroes is almost here.

Some of you may have heard that starting in January, DC Comics will release a line of new comics, including completely new, never before seen characters. Here’s the best part; Some of these characters are bound by the Dark Multiverse, the epicenter of Dark Nights: Metal.

The new titles will be illustrated by legendary DC artists such as Jim Lee, Andy Kubert, John Romita Jr, Tony S. Daniels, Ivan Reis, Ryan Sook, Phillip Tan and Kenneth Rocafort. Along side them will be some of DC Comics biggest writers, like Scott Snyder (New 52 Batman, Dark Nights: Metal), Jeff Lemire ( New 52 Animal Man, Justice League Dark, Teen Titans: Earth One), James Tynion IV (Batman Eternal, Constantine the Hellblazer), Robert Venditti ( New 52 Flash, Hal Jordan and the Green Lanterns, New 52 Green Lantern), Steve Orlando ( Supergirl: Rebirth, Justice League of America: Rebirth), Justin Jordan ( Green Lantern: New Guardians, New 52 Superboy), and  Dan DiDio ( The Phantom Stranger, Outsiders).

Starting of the list of DC’s “New Age” Comics is Damage, written by Robert Venditti and illustrated by Tony S. Daniels. Damage is about Ethan “Elvis” Avery, who wanted to serve his country. He instead found himself caught up in becoming a monster of mass destruction. Now, as a living breathing ticking time-bomb, Avery must fight to regain control of his body for about an hour a day as the monster is unleashed. This sounds familiar to that one general from Justice League: Unlimited, mixed with a bit of Jekyll and Hyde in there.

The next series is The Silencer, written by Dan Abnett and illustrated by John Romita Jr. The series will follow The Silencer, one of the DC Universe’s deadliest assassins, and one you’ve never heard of. After decades of being a chief assassin, she is now living a normal life, with a normal family, on a normal street. That doesn’t last long as her past come back to haunt her in the form of her former employer who brings a deadly mission, and Talia Al Ghul won’t take no for an answer.

Next on the list is Sideways, written by Dan DiDio and Justin Jordan, and illustrated by Kenneth Rocafort. Sideways follows high school junior Derek James who fell into a rift into the Dark Matter Universe during the events of Dark Nights: Metal. Now as Sideways, he creates rifts in midair to leap through dimensions at will, but with all that power comes at a cost. The cost being tears in the fabric of the space-time continuum.

I can personally tell you that this next series is the one I’m most excited about, The Terrifics, written by Jeff Lemire, and illustrated by Ivan Reis. The line up will be Mr. Terrific, Plastic Man, Metamorpho, and Phantom Girl. Now, I haven’t been caught up on what’s happened after Dark Nights: Metal #2, but I do know that Mr. Terrific and Plastic Man, have large roles in the story. Apparently, The Terrifics are banned from the Dark Multiverse of Metal, and they must work together to get back home. Meanwhile, during their return trip, they are brought face to face with a new mystery: Where is Tom Strong?

Other titles include:

The Immortal Men, written by James Tynion IV, illustrated by Jim Lee

The Curse of Brimstone, written by Justin Jordan, and illustrated by Philip Tan

New Challengers, written by Scott Snyder, and illustrated by Andy Kubert

The Unexpected, written by Steve Orlando, and illustrated by Ryan Sook

This all begins come January 2018. The Age of Heroes has forever changed.
