BREAKING: Disney buys Fox for $52.4 billion!

It’s one of the largest media mergers in history as the Walt Disney Company announces its purchase of several assets of its competitor, 21st Century Fox. That’s according to reports from multiple media outlets including CNN and the Washington Post.

The Facebook page for the Marvel Cinematic Universe teased these two images following the announcement.

Disney’s deal with Fox means the rights to both the X-Men and Fantastic Four movie franchises would now belong to Marvel Studios. For years, fans have cried out in support for the First Family of Marvel and the Merry Mutants to join the MCU. With the upcoming Avengers 4 being called a “finale” by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, many think the film studio would continue dominating the box office with the X-Men.

In regards to television, Fox sold Disney Twentieth Century Fox Television, FX Productions and Fox21. Disney also receives large stakes in Hulu. Before the buyout is complete, Fox plans to separate Fox Broadcasting network and stations, Fox News Channel, Fox Business Network, FS1, FS2 and Big Ten Network into a new company for its shareholders.

Those same shareholders as well as regulators still have to approve the deal, prompting mixed concerns from analysts. The Justice Department recently filed a suit to block a merging of AT&T and Time Warner last month.
