Three films in Fox’s X-Men franchise have gotten new release dates today following news that Gore Verbinski has stepped down as director of the Gambit solo film.
Deadpool 2 has moved up two weeks to the new date of May 18, 2018. This places the film a week before Disney’s Solo: A Star Wars Story rather than a week after.
The horror-inspired spin-off The New Mutants has been pushed back a full ten months to the new date of February 22, 2019. This is being done to prevent overlap Deadpool 2’s theatrical run and to do some reworking to the film in order to make it a truly terrifying viewing experience.
Finally, Gambit has moved from its Valentine’s Day release date to June 7, 2019. No specific reason was given for the change, but it’s easy to speculate that is at least partially due to the director shake up we reported on here.
