More trouble hits the already shaky production of the Gambit solo film as Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean, A Cure for Wellness) steps down from the director’s chair. This marks the third time a director has left the Channing Tatum-led project about the fan-favorite mutant.
Verbinski took the role over from Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow, The Bourne Identity) who had replaced original director Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes, The Gambler).
Verbinski seems to have left on good terms, with sources citing schedule issues as the reasoning for his departure.
At the time of writing this Verbinki’s departure has not changed the scheduled February 14, 2019 release date of the X-Men spin-off. (EDIT: The film’s release date has changed to June 7, 2019. More information here.)
For Gambit fans anxiously waiting more from the ragin’ Cajun be sure to check out X-Men Red #3 which brings Gambit into the team. You can find out more here.
