Writer Tom King Announces “Sanctuary” Idea DC Superheroes Struggling with Trauma from Violence

At the DC in DC event today in Washington, DC, comic book writer Tom King used his platform to speak on a very troubling issue in both real life and comics: the issue of violence and how it can traumatize people, superhero or not. In response to this issue, the head of the “The Aftermath: Battle and Trauma in Comics” panel revealed Sanctuary.

Likening it to a veterans help group, King said it would be a place where our favorite superheroes can “actually admit that this violence has had consequences for them and has affected them mentally”.

The specifics of the project are still unclear, but the message is clearer than ever: everybody, even superheroes, are affected by violence one way or another and it is perfectly okay to need help.
