Top 10 Jean Grey Moments

Top 10 Jean Grey Moments

Ok, so with Jean Grey alive and set to return to X-Men, I thought it was time to look at my top ten moments in the life and times of the first lady.

10. Uncanny X-Men #242

When Inferno brings X-factor face-to-face with the supposedly dead X-Men, Wolverine plants a smacker of a kiss on Jean in front of everyone and she soon pulls away and Cyclops lays down. But no need for that; Jean sends Wolverine flying before X-factor and the X-Men start fighting.

9. Uncanny X-Men #138

Even when it’s not really her, Jean still has a big impact as the family gathers for her funeral. Scott remembers their time together and decides to leave the X-Men for good, unable to cope with the death of his first love.

8. Uncanny X-Men #114

After the battle against Magneto in Antarctica, the X-Men were separated; Jean and Beast returned to the mansion, believing Cyclops and the rest of the X-Men are dead, to break the news to their mentor Charles Xavier.

7. Uncanny X-Men #100

After surviving the trap set on the space station by Stephen Lang, our heroes jump into a space shuttle, but the computer is down, meaning they will not survive the solar flare. Jean selflessly takes the knowledge from Dr. Corbeau how to fly, puts Cyclops to sleep, and tells the X-Men to go into the shielded area, sacrificing herself.

6. X-Men #30

A classic moment over 30 years in the making, the wedding of Jean Grey and Scott Summers. I love a good wedding.

5. X-Factor #1

Jean Grey and Scott Summers are reunited after we learn that Jean never rose from the shuttle after that fateful crash and it was Phoenix who died on the moon, and a lot has changer over the years. However, she and the rest of the original five form X-Factor

4. The Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix #4

Some honeymoon, being sucked into the future, but it was worth it as Scott and Jean got to see Nathan grow up a little bit. But the reason I chose this issue is more for the heart-warming moment she has with Rachel Grey, her daughter from another timeline.

3. The Adventures of Cylcops and Phoenix #2

Being sent into the past this time to stop the coming of the dark future, Jean and Scott attempt to stop Dr. Essex from becoming Apocalypse; however, during a fight with Apocalypse, Jean ends up in the river struggling, and it’s Dr. Essex who saves her live, which is a shock.

2. X-Men #53

The Onslaught took Jean on a shocking dream walk where she discovered that Charles Xavier was in love with her. Totally weird, right?

1.

One moment that always sticks with me is the time that Betsy made the moves on Scott. Even though it was Kwannon, this is one of those times where Jean did not come out on top.

What didn’t make the cut?

There were a few other moments I wanted to mention which were close to hitting the top 10:

New X-Men #141: Jean used the Phoenix Force to put Emma Frost back together after she was shot by Esme and shattered like a diamond.

New X-Men #148: Knowing that she was going to die. Wolverine stabs Jean in an attempt to end her pain.

Uncanny X-Men #394: Wolverine kisses Jean in attempt to stop her giving up and it works, but with the seed planted, it’s not really developed

Phoenix Endsong: Shortly after Jean’s death, the Phoenix returns to reunite, but Jean rejects the entity.

Days of Future Present:  When Jean doesn’t believe Rachel is her daughter, she rejects her.

So Jean over the years has had some great stories and moments, but sometimes I think she is better to be thought of rather than actually being.

Although I think I prefer the X-Men without her, her overpowering presence in the team could be a great thing with her being back fresh and rebuilding old relationships and making new ones. I look forward to reading her in X-Men Red, but in the meantime if you need a Jean Grey fix, she is returning in Phoenix Resurrection.

What’s your favorite Jean Grey moment?
