Introducing 2018’s Marvel Young Guns!

Marvel is proud to announce the newest artists chosen for their Young Guns! This fresh generation of talented artists are some of the best in the industry, and their consistently incredible art has proven that. These six artists have been admired by comic book fans from around the world!

The Young Guns program was launched in 2004 to spotlight the best and brightest early career artists in the industry. The previous initiates of the program have left their mark on some of Marvel’s favorite and greatest heroes. Alumni like Jim Cheung, Steve McNiven, David Marquez, Sara Pichelli, and many many more have been busy drawing some of Marvel’s biggest stories and launching earth shattering new series.

Today, Marvel takes pride in announcing the continuation of the Young guns with 2018’s inductees:

Pepe Larraz, artist on Avengers: No Surrender. Spanish artist Larraz has penciled The Mighty Thor, illustrated stories in anthologies such as Web of Spider-Man, To Serve and Protect. Larraz is someone to keep an eye on!

Javier Garrón, artist on a secret upcoming project that hasn’t been revealed yet! Garrón made his Marvel debut in 2004 with Cyclops, this work led to his efforts in the “Black Vortex” event crossover between Guardians of the Galaxy and New X-Men.

Marco Checchetto, artist on Old Man Hawkeye. Checchetto’s early contributions to the revival of Marvel Comics Presents pushed him to the top of the industry’s new talents. His mark was made on the Marvel Universe with his runs on Amazing Spider-Man, Punisher, and Daredevil.

Aaron Kuder, artist on Infinity Countdown. He moved his way into the comic industry by working on the New York Times best-selling book The Armory Wars and Key of Z. After working at DC on books such as Action Comics, in 2016, Kruder made an exclusive agreement with Marvel with work on Death of X and All-New Guardians of the Galaxy.

Mike Del Mundo, artist on a secret upcoming project that has yet to be revealed. His talents have been seen with Marvel since 2009. If you’ve been reading any Marvel Comics since 2009, you might recognize Del Mundo’s work. Chances are, his cover was featured at some point. Del Mundo’s artwork has been seen on well-known series as Invincible Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Vision.

Russell Dauterman, artist on Mighty Thor. Mighty Thor comics are what he’s known best for. This series has become a best-selling run! Eisner-nominated to boot. Dauterman previously worked on Nightwing, Cyclops, and Supurbia. Dauterman has designed characters and created covers for multiple companies such as Marvel, BOOM! Studios, DC, Valiant, and Image. His work doesn’t stop at comics, as he has also illustrated children’s books and worked as a costume illustrator for the film industry, namely Marvel Studios’ Captain America: The First Avenger.

Each of the Young Guns will be creating a special exclusive variant cover for six new books on top of their regular series. These books include Avengers #678, X-Men Red #1, Marvel Two-in-One #3, Doctor Strange: Damnation #1, Black Panther #170, and Amazing Spider-Man #797! The variants won’t be given to every retailer, however, as Marvel has chosen select ones! They will be made available to fans worldwide through Panini in Europe, Russia, South America, and other markets as well as through Televisa in Mexico.

“I still clearly remember the launch of Marvel’s original Young Guns campaign over a decade ago, crafted as an innovative way to recognize and promote the upcoming artists we believed in – and knew would one day be superstars!” said C.B. Cebulski, editor-in-chief of Marvel. “From its inception, Young Guns has always been about living up to Marvel’s long legacy of identifying and hiring unique and groundbreaking talent to give our fans the best looking comics on the stands. And here we go again! Introducing the class of 2018, six artists poised for greatness, whose art will grace the pages of some of the coolest comics of the year!”
