The Man of Steel gets special treatment this May

As the era of Bendis slowly enters DC Comics, The Rebirth era isn’t over just yet. Because this May, both Action Comics, and Superman are getting 48-page Oversized One Shot’s to hightlight the end of the amazing run on both titles by Dan Jurgens and the team of Patrick Gleason and Peter J. Tomasi. With stories highlighting the growth of not just Jonathan Kent as a boy, but Clark Kent as a newly reborn hero, father, and husband, these two years of the red blue blur have been heralded as some of the best by the comic reading audience. Now with Action Comics Special #1, and Superman Special #1, we can celebrate these amazing writers and the artists who helped them tell these stories with new short stories that highlight Superman and his ensemble cast.

First to release on May 2nd, Action Comics Special #1 is set to feature “The Last Will and Testament of Lex Luthor”, written by Dan Jurgens and art by Will Conrad. Up to this point, Luthor had continued his growth from the New 52 and after the fall of New 52 Superman, chose to take of the mantle only for Superman from the Pre-Flashpoint Era to arrive and cause an unlikely alliance to form between them. Will this story be the end of this hero we’ve come to see in Luthor? We’ll have to wait and see along with stories from Max Landis, and writer/artist Francis Manapul, that were originally supposed to be in DC Universe Holiday Special 2017, but due to controversy didn’t appear, and writer Mark Russel is slated to have an included story.

Superman Special #1, scheduled for release May 16th, will include Tomasi and Gleason’s “The Promise,” which will wrap up a story from their run that began in issue #8, 2016’s “Escape from Dinosaur Island.”

“Before Superman’s world goes through some drastic changes, he has unfinished business to attend to on Dinosaur Island. Superman and the Losers’ Captain Storm take one final trip together into the abyss of tomorrow, which brings the military man out of time into the world of today.”

This Oversized issue will also feature bonus stories by Mark Russell with art by Bryan Hitch and Ian Flynn with art by Kaare Andrews.
