Sabretooth Round 2: Part 5
Written by: Ed Brisson
Art by: Mike Perkins
He is Danny Rand, protector of the innocent and defender of K’un-Lun. With his incredible fighting prowess and chi-fueled skills, none can harm that which the Immortal Iron Fist protects!
Previously on Iron Fist: Choshin’s plan has nearly come to fruition. All that stands in his way of domination are Iron fist, Sabretooth and a small band of warriors led by the city’s current guardian Sparrow. Sabretooth split off to enact some much needed revenge. At the height of the battle Iron Fist seemingly comes up with a plan. He snatched the Book of the Iron Fist and fled. What could he possibly be up to? Keep reading to find out!
Today’s Jaw-Crunching Issue: This is it folks! The fate of K’un-Lun lies in a heated battle between Choshin and the Sparrow. Sparrow manages to hold her own against Choshin and his men but the tide seems to be turning. In another part of the city things have turned into a rather disease ridden brawl between Sabretooth and the menacing Rat of 12 Plagues. That pesky healing factor may just turn the tide in old Creed’s favor. When all hope seems lost for Sparrow and her men, Iron Fist returns with an unlikely ally in tow. It’s time to settle things once and for all!
Personal Thoughts and Opinions: This story arc had a pretty rocky start but thankfully the conclusion has tied everything up into a very satisfying bow. Choshin sadly is still a rather weak villain in comparison to the greater Marvel pantheon but he served his purpose well enough. Most of the issue consists of well paced action and dramatic moments that kept me readily engaged until the end. Sabretooth gets a fitting conclusion to his story-line and while in the end he still seemed like an unnecessary addition to the team, I am glad he was along for the ride. Danny finally realizes his purpose as the Iron Fist and I hope it will lead into some more interesting character development down the line. I’m most curious as to what will be done with the Sparrow. She’s an interesting character and I hope she returns in the future.
Overall these last few issues were a fun ride and I look forward to seeing what sort of adventure Danny gets into next. The art continues to be top notch with great choreography and emotional moments. There are a number of beautiful splash pages scattered throughout the book that make the fights a spectacle to look at. If only we got this sort of action in the Netflix show. Uhhh but I digress. Mr. Brisson and Perkins continue to deliver a stellar book issue by issue and I can’t wait to see what’s down the line.
