The Amazing Spider-Man #796

Things are heating up for Spidey! That might just be the heat from Goblin King’s sword though. Part 3 of the “Threat Level: Red” story arc raises the stakes as Norman Osborn prepares to make his appearance with Carnage in tow!

The Deets

Peter Parker is just getting into the swing of things as the science editor at the Daily Bugle. He is assigned to cover an upcoming Alchemax demonstration where the science corporation will reveal a new sustainable power source. A science/tech company introducing a new sustainable power source in the Marvel Universe? What could go wrong?

Peter arrives at the Alchemax testing facility. There he discovers Mary Jane Watson has been assigned to cover the event as well representing Stark Industries. The couple is then joined by Flash Thompson, aka Anti-Venom, who has been discreetly hired as extra security. Before the demonstration can begin though Globin Nation, led by Globin King, attack! Spider-Man and Anti-Venom literally swing into action.

My Take

I wish I could be more detailed but I did not want to drop too many spoilers. Issue #796 is absolutely worth the read! It is clear the action is picking up and shaping for a satisfying showdown between the Osborn/Carnage hybrid and Spider-Man.

Dan Slott and Christos Gage have done a great job in terms of pacing for this arch. With the latest issue, we are gearing up for a great Norman Osborn return. Osborn is just as insidious and calculating as ever. It will be great to see what kind of damage he is capable of with the Carnage symbiote at his disposal. Or who knows, Osborn may be at Carnage’s disposal. This is exactly why this deadly combination makes for a great read.

The art for issue #796 is clean and detailed. The last panels show Osborn and Carnage plotting their next moves. Artists Hawthorne, Pallott, Smith, and Arciniega do a wonderful job depicting this exchange. In my opinion, it is the highlight of the issue. I am looking forward to the next chapter in “Threat Level: Red”.
