Batman and Black Lightning Meet Under New Detective Comics Writer!

As reported by Den of Geek, the next writer of Detective Comics will be Bryan Hill. He is taking over from James Tynion IV’s run who has been writing since Rebirth. Hill’s current project is The Wild Storm: Michael Cray, spinoff of The Wild Storm.

Hill rose in the public’s opinion with his work on Postal. As well as being one of the leads on Cyberforce relaunch, he has an expansive career outside of comics as a pop culture consultant. Hill will take over starting with Detective Comics #982 for a five-issue arc in June called “On the Outside”.

With Hill taking over Detective Comics, just what is Batman going to do with Black Lightning’s help?

Here’s some official information on the books including the cover art for #982:

Part one of “On the Outside”! Duke Thomas and Cassandra Cain along with other young heroes do not intend to back off no matter what Batman thinks is best. Just who can Batman trust to guide them? They won’t listen to him, and they’re in need of a teacher. Incoming Black Lightning!

Part two of “On the Outside”! Black Lightning is involved in the lives of Batman’s precious protégés, but how involved did the Dark Knight really want him? Where will Jefferson Pierce lead them? What kind of missions do the young heroes face? What exactly, are they hearing about Batman from Black Lightning?
Wow. This new arc may just be a brand new relaunch of The Outsiders. The last time Black Lightning was teamed up with Batman for anything was in Batman & The Outsiders, a comic that launched in 1983! This is incredible, and may just pave the way for more of the young heroes getting their own rebirth. Personally, I’ve been dying to see Black Lightning back in the spotlight, as have many comic fans. I can’t wait to see where this will lead.
We could all be wrong, and it could just be a once off thing, but somehow, I doubt it. Just what does Hill have up his sleeves? I guess we’ll just have to wait to see.
