A dark future lurks around the corner and Red Robin knows that it might come true. Now with Ulysses back in the picture bringing something of that dark future to light, Red Robin is torn on what to do. Will Red Robin stop the horrendous future he was told about or let events play out? With Batwoman now taking charge of The Colony and recruiting Batwing and Azrael, what will Batman do of this new problem?
What You Need to Know:
The Gotham Knights era has ended and the Bat-family has moved onto their separate ways. Batwoman has taken over her father’s Colony army and has set her sights on becoming a global protection force while Batman still worries and protects his beloved city of Gotham. Through all the events that have happened, Red Robin is haunted by the future he was told about by Tim Drake of the Future. Now Ulysses has shown up and brings Red Robin something of that dark future to show him so that together, they might stop the events that are about to occur, but this will only add fuel to the fire. Was Tim Drake of the Future correct all along?
What You’ll Find Out:
Since Red Robin returned from Mr. Oz’s prison, he has known from his future self that dark days are to come if he did nothing to stop what will come to pass. Building the Belfry and continuing his work on The Gotham Knights to be Gotham’s top protection was his way to end what will happen. That is until the incident that brought everything to a halt. With Batwoman killing Clayface, his dreams for a better future came crumbling down (literally).
Coming out of the shadows, Ulysses asks Red Robin for a few minutes to show him what truly will happen in the future that will lead him to become The Batman of the Future. Unknowing what to do and needing some time to think and breathe from what he just saw, Red Robin tells Ulysses to give him a moment to hopefully make the right decision that will bring a better future.
But is Ulysses to be truly trustworthy or does he have an agenda of his own? “EYE AM IN CONTROL.”
What Just Happened?
What’s that quote from Terminator 2 about the future? Oh right: “There’s no fate but what we make for ourselves.” Red Robin has seen what awaits them and in doing so, must take charge so those events do not occur.
But is his head in the game to stop what’s coming? Someone doesn’t feel he is and in doing so, will become a puppeteer to push Red Robin to a point that will finally put him into action: becoming The Batman of the Future or step up as Red Robin and end the dark future and hangs on his shoulders. Only time will tell how this story ends, let’s just hope it doesn’t end with a dark future like Futures End.
