DC Finds Director for upcoming Birds Of Prey movie

DC Entertainment and Warner Bros have found their director for an upcoming project reports Deadline this morning. Cathy Yan, past Wall Street Journal reporter turned director of the movie Dead Pigs, has been given the opportunity to direct what is being called a “Girl Gang” movie.

Many are saying that Harley Quinn is also being named as apart of the lineup, but the well-known birds of prey usually comprise of Barabara Gordan as either Batgirl or Oracle, Huntress, and Black Canary. The idea of villains such as Harley, Catwoman, or Poison Ivy isn’t native to the comic, but the idea of say the Gotham City Sirens vs the Birds of Prey sounds more likely than Harley being a crime fighter…unless she has a bomb in her neck. However, it is not currently confirmed who will be apart of this project. The script was written by Christina Hodson, who wrote the Transformers spinoff Bumblebee, and just got hired to write the Batgirl movie.

As reported in the Deadline Exclusive:

“This film looks cleared to start production by year’s end or early next year, after Robbie completes Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. She is negotiating to star alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt in the Quentin Tarantino-directed film for Sony Pictures. The other Harley Quinn films are still under construction. That includes the Suicide Squad sequel to be directed by Gavin O’Connor. Two others, Harley Quinn Vs The Joker and Gotham City Sirens with Suicide Squad helmer David Ayer, seem further in the distance.”
