Can Gwen Stacy Save You Gwen Stacy?! (Spider Gwen #31 Comic Review)

Gwenom Part 6

Writer: Jason Latour

Artist: Robbi Rodriguez

Cover: Robbi Rodriguez

What You Need to Know: Gwenom had Matt Murdock in her clawed hands after fighting against Captain America. But at the last second, she was thrown into a Multiverse version of Old School Gwen Stacy, Earth 617 Version, when she was just a super smart Science Nerd haunted by the death of her father. Meanwhile, the Watchers of the Universe are trying to figure out how this has happened and who is behind the time warp only find the most surprising of ‘Villain’s” of them all!

In This Issue: Captain America starts the issue off with a little one-on-one talk with Matt Murdock about what has happened. Both clearly healing from their battles, they have a wonderful moment of tension between them about the disappearance of Gwen Stacy. Neither know where she is and that is dangerous for everyone. Meanwhile, the Watchers are shaking their heads over the new revelation that has been presented to them about not only their Gwen Stacy, but ALL the Multiverse Gwen Stacy’s thanks to the appearance of an older Gwen Stacy Earth-617 version. Meanwhile, thanks to some help from a suave Tony Stark, our girl Gwen must take a special “leap of faith” as it were from a very familiar bridge to get back to her Earth. And when she does, her first stop isn’t Matt Murdock, but J. Jonah Jameson.

And now it’s just too much! Everyone was excited about Gwenom appearing, myself included, and we all thought it was going to be a couple awesome episodes (which it was) then Gwen was going to see the light and get rid of the Symbiot. Now it has lost its flavor and gotten too much even for me. The “tangled web” that has happened, while potentially interesting, makes the Gwenom arch get lost in the background. The revelation of multiple Gwen’s isn’t really a revelation, but I will say the fact they have all been conspiring against the Watchers is a nice middle finger to them and not getting involved in drama.

Summary
Well now that Gwen is back with a slightly new perspective on things, here is hoping that she puts it too good use with the alliance of Jameson. Jason Latour’s writing hasn’t been bad this whole run so now that they are getting back on track with the main story, its only a matter of time before all hell can “officially” break loose.
