What You Need to Know: Batgirl is keeping the streets of Burnside as clean as possible while Barbra Gordon is trying her best to get through everyday life.

In this Issue: We start with a run-of-the mill beginning: Batgirl intervenes in a domestic violence situation and gets zapped with a laser like weapon. It momentarily incapacitates her, but she is able to stop the bad guy and goes home to rest up. But Babs is finding it a little hard to get herself together after the taser attack. But with an unexpected meeting with her old friend Kai, she begins to wonder if perhaps is in a rut with her life. Later, Babs runs into likewise old chum May, but suspects something might be wrong. After following her to a fight pit where she is using a patch to medically enhance herself. In trying to stop May, Batgirl gets knocked so hard she finds herself in a liminal domain where she meets Fruit Bat, who helped her in Singapore under similar mental circumstances and reveals, things are not as they seem.

So, it’s no secret that Babs has some mental problems that she is constantly going through as far as the chips in her head AND her trying to balance her real life and secret life. We all go through “Ruts” but hers are a little deeper. Clearly, she has got some mental house-cleaning to work her way out of in this one. I was a little thrown off with the appearance of Kai and how quickly she fell for him. Kai was never an interesting character and while he was kind of cute I didn’t think he was anywhere NEAR Babs “type”. Also, the art of Mai’s change was a bit weird as far as how her anatomy change. As someone who has taken “Figure Drawing” classes in Art they seemed weird, even though its clearly to show how bad the drug is taking over Mai.

Summary
As always with a new arch, I’m interested to see where this goes. As I said, Babs goes through constant mental struggles with the chips in her head and her life. To see where her brain has taken her during this one is interesting though, imagining a day in her life like its nothing.
