What You Need to Know:

The current arc of Green 0 takes a strange turn as Simon continues his search for Jessica inside of the Power Ring, as Constantine and the Justice League investigate the black hole outside of Jessica’s home.

What Just Happened:

Well this was weird, yet intriguing at the same time. Jessica continues to relive the day of her friend’s death in gruesome detail. Meanwhile, the Power Ring seems to have its own ecosystem that holds remnants of its previous wielders. This revelation leads to a couple of freaky surprises for Simon, including a fun cameo from the most recent wielder of the ring. As Simon fights through this strange environment, Jessica’s memories have seemingly began to grant her the strength needed to exact her vengeance. This could spell the end for Jessica’s tenure as a Green Lantern.

 My Thoughts:

This was a fun issue that was a breeze to read. (Badum tss.) I flew through it and got to the end and thought, “That’s it?” I mean that as a compliment, as I am interested to see where Seely takes this story next. He is embracing the strangeness of the recent Green Lantern mythos to great effect and makes this a very fun issue.

Seeing Simon interact with the inhabitants of the Power Ring was a treat. V. Ken Marion’s art really stood out in this issue, especially in the way the Power Ring world was depicted. Dinei Ribiero’s colors really made the world pop and makes the reader belief Jessica and Simon are in a whimsical place. Outside of the ring, the Justice League and Constantine seem to just be spinning their wheels. At least they’re not advertised as guest appearances or else I’d think they were a cash grab to bring readers in.

Summary
This was a very weird, but fun issue. Jessica and Simon’s struggles within the Power Ring are separate but linked experiences that could prove disastrous for Jessica’s status as a Green Lantern. It seems next issue we will see Jessica unleashed, which may not bode well for the DC Universe.
