Writer: Hope Larson

Art: Jose Marzan, Jr. & Minkyu Jung

Cover: Dan Mora

Variant Cover: Joshua Middleton

What You Need to Know: Batgirl is able to stop a domestic violence call but gets zapped by a taser in the action. As her day goes on, she notices something odd is off. Turns out, the tazzer she was hit with wasn’t a tazzer and she is now trapped in a prison of her own mind’s making!

In This Issue: Batgirl has realized that physically, she is still in the apartment of the domestic violence incident she was in a few nights ago. But mentally she is in the middle of boxing ring with mutant versions of her friend May and her opponent before Batgirl arrived. After some quick thinking, our girl obviously makes it out without a problem. But now she has to figure out how to break out of this prison in her mind before it starts creating a bigger labyrinth she might not be able to find a way out of. After a moment of clarity, she realizes the only way out of this perfect dream is to make it imperfect!

Juggling between a super hero’s real life and super hero life is never easy and it’s been done tons of times for different characters. With Larson’s beautiful writing, we are reminded of the true honesty of the situation these characters have to take. We also are reminded of what makes Batgirl a great character on her own. Strong, smart, humble and dedicated to everyone and everything in her life while still being determined to make things right. As the issue goes on, Barbara realizes that she needs to apply that same level of good will to herself, allowing herself to break through the routine she needs to.

Summary
We all go through times in our lives where we have to decide what we want in life, especially now with graduation time right around the corner for students. This issue will hopefully serve as a reminder and a comfort to those that it can be done. Batgirl shows that no one might have it down, but it’s possible to find yourself in the struggle.
