It’s all in the Family! (Amazing Spider-man: Renew Your Vows Volume 1 Trade Paperback Review)

User Rating: 8.5

Writer – Gerry Conway

Artist – Ryan Stegman (1-4) & Nathan Stockman (5)

What Happens – The first volume of The Amazing Spider-Man Renew Your Vows brings the whole Parker clan into the superhero business. Read about MJ and Anna May as they suit up as Spinneret and Spiderling.  As they fight along Spider-Man against foes such as Mole Man and Sandman.

My Thoughts – I first saw this book when it was first released, and I thought the whole ‘superhero family’ idea was silly. It wasn’t until I saw the cover for issue 13 did I actually pick up the book, there was something about that cover that drew me in.

Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows #13

I decided to go back and pick up the graphic novels to catch up. So I read this and was not expecting much but I really enjoyed this book. It can seem a bit juvenile but that what happens when you have a young child as one of the main characters. The first few issues are kind of the same story told in the perspective of either Peter, MJ, or Anna May (Annie). The first story (re)introduces the characters and sets up the long arc, whilst fighting a B-list villain, followed by a little backup story. The art is nice, bright, and dynamic. I really liked the new outfits for MJ and Annie. While this story isn’t for everyone, if you like a bit of fun still in your comics, check it out. You won’t be disappointed.
