Following Doom’s defeat post Secret Wars at the hands of his nemesis Reed Richards he attempted to walk the path of a hero. He still hasn’t fully recovered from the ordeal as Reed is gone and Doom feels he isn’t coming back. Ben feels the same leading him to lie to Johnny to make them think they had a chance to find and reunite with the other half of the Fantastic 4. The next part of the journey is now…

Recap:

We start off seeing a young Doom training with his father in Latveria, the country he is destined to rule. They participate in some combat training and go over some life’s lessons. It’s a pretty quick flash leading us to the present where Doom as Infamous Iron Man accompanies Ben on an important errand. They trade jabs at each other before entering Doom’s castle and finding another version of Doom having committed a murder. Thing attacks him but is overwhelmed. Infamous Doom enters the fray after being challenged the evil version. They get to fighting and the fight is interrupted with Infamous Doom being whisked away. He comes into contact with Reed and has a powerful dialogue with him and then gets the surprise of his life. Doom is sent back to the fight where he beats his other self.

Opinion:

I used the word “Powerful” earlier in this review. I’ll use it again this issue was crazy. His dialogue with Reed even further cementing their rivalry was something to behold. I’ve followed this war of geniuses for years and it still has life left in it. Aside from that, the dialogue was great. Anything with a lot of Doom in it will be great and full of quotable lines. The surprise that Reed had for Doom was great as well. A nice plot twist I didn’t see coming.

This issue was loaded with greatness. A standout issue in this already good series most definitely. I hope they keep the momentum going. As I mentioned, Doom is always interesting, and his dialogue with Reed almost gave me chills. The rivalry has withstood the test of time.
