He is Earth’s greatest hero and first line of defense in the fight against magical threats. As the Sorcerer Supreme, no opponent can stand against the mystical might of Doctor Strange!
Previously in Doctor Strange: It turns out friends really can be found in the strangest of places. After months of captivity on an alien planet, Doctor Strange finds an unlikely ally in the “arcanologist” Kanna. Both have a desire to discover what magical devices and relics await them beyond the stars, so the pair make quick work of their jailers and escape in a new ship. After a heavy sacrifice from Strange, the alien invaders are kept sealed on their own planet and our heroes make their way further into the cosmos to see what else awaits them. What mystical artifacts will turn up next? Keep reading to find out!
Today’s Time-Turning Tale: Kanna and Strange have had quite the adventure in their brief time together. After numerous escapades involving new spells, ancient talismans and helpful mentors, our duo make a quick stop at the planet Tarnax II where an old friend of Kanna’s resides. Perhaps he may have some new techniques for our own earthly sorcerer to learn. Sadly Kanna failed to mention before landing that this “friend” of hers just happens to be a Skrull! Strange remains hesitant but he decides to trust Kanna’s judgement. Perhaps things might have gone differently if two rather large wrenches hadn’t been thrown into the machine. Those being none other then the supremely powerful Time Stone and the slightly less powerful Super Skrull! Being the hero that he is, Strange employs every technique he can to take down the FF copy-cat. Through some quick thinking the Super Skrull is defeated and the stone is recovered. Where will the galaxy lead our duo next? Come back next time to find out!
Personal Thoughts and Opinions: Strange’s interesting space adventures continue in this issue. This issue didn’t really push the envelope much but it’s certainly maintaining the course with the series so far. We get to see some interesting new locales and artifacts and thankfully Kanna is getting a bit more character development. There’s still not much to say about her as of yet but I like where she seems to be headed. I don’t know Doctor Strange to have too many female companions in his history so it’s a nice change to see. One very interesting element to this issue was the further building of Skrull lore. The artwork takes some interesting liberties with what we consider a normal Skrull to look like and it’s a unique enough change that I’m glad the team decided to throw it in there. Plus getting to see more of the Super Skrull is always a bonus. The seemingly out-of-the-blue inclusion of the Time Stone seems largely undervalued considering it’s power in the greater Marvel Universe. It just happens to be in the hands of a couple of Skrulls. Not as much fanfare or excitement as I would have hoped to see from the appearance of an Infinity Stone. I assume that’s due to this issue being a tie-in to a larger event. Thankfully the artwork remains as good as ever and as tie-in’s go this one feels less rushed then most. I look forward to seeing what lies behind the next star system.
