Carol Danvers, Here We Go Again:

Over the past few years, we have walked this road with Carol before. Another origin story for our favorite Heroine. Carol was an ordinary girl from the Boston suburbs with a knack for science and a passion for the Red Sox before an encounter left her with incredible superpowers that helped her become who she is today. She’s a leader in the Avengers and the commander of Alpha Flight. In these 5 issues, we will discover the true origin of our Captain Marvel. Her anxiety attacks reveal the skeletons she fought hard to swallow down.

Delving Into The Life of Captain Marvel:

Carol Danvers squares off against Tanalth and Moonstone. She begins to relive her past, and before she realizes what’s going on, she strikes them repeatedly. Hitting harder and harder. Facing a foe that isn’t there, one that she could never face off against physically. She’s talked down from killing them accidentally, and good ol’ Cap catches her as she falls. Stark manages to get her through her anxiety attack. Once she’s being examined, Carol realizes that she has to go back. She has to face the demons of her past and figure out why she cannot stop seeing him. Why she was so triggered during the fight against them. She decides to go to her hometown and see her family for the first time in years. Instead of the warm greeting that she was secretly hoping for, she’s grilled over why she decided to return. Her brother storms out, and she finds him later in the cemetery next to their father’s grave with a drink in his hand. He scoffs at her and says she always had to be perfect and better. Never cared for them. Carol’s world is about to turn upside down.

When I heard that Captain Marvel was returning to comics once more, I’m not going to lie. I was holding back my excitement. She’s seen so many reboots and cancelations. I just couldn’t open myself up to anymore hurt. I went in not knowing how this was going to play out. How was Carol’s story going to be told this time? Well, let me tell you. It’s worth the read. The emotions are BEAUTIFULLY portrayed with the perfect amount of everything in them. The PTSD is wonderfully handled, and I’m impressed with the artwork. The linework is clean; the colors are vibrant without taking away from anything. All in all, damn good origin issue. I’m looking forward to seeing where the next 4 will lead. You should check her out too.
