The Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows #23

With Mr. Sinister on the march to the X-Mansion, with a mutate army in tow, it looks like the Parkers are going to be stretched to their limits. This action-packed issue gives a satisfying conclusion to the “Weird Science” arch.

The Deets

The Parkers have to get to upstate New York, and quickly if they want to stop Sinister from destroying the X-men. Luckily, Peter calls Logan just in time for the X-Men to be ready for the attack. Meanwhile, the Spider family are heading to the mansion via the family car (a funny moment).

At the mansion, Sinister and his army finally arrive. Sinister tells Wolverine that he plans to further evolve the mutant gene, to make mutants stronger due to an external threat: the creation of the mutate army. During the battle, the Parkers arrive, plowing through the army with their car while Spiderling car-surfs. Thanks to Spiderling’s “advanced” spider sense she is able to daze the majority of the army temporarily,  granting victory for the heroes. Just then, Normie Osborn joins the fight in a towering Goblin mech, to blast Sinister causing him to retreat.

The issue closes with the Parkers back at home discussing Annie’s spider sense, and how, as a family, they will figure it all out together. Great wrap up!

My Take

For now, it seems like this is the end for the Spider-Family. Well, at least for the “Renew” run of their overall story. Issue #23 ends by telling the reader that the adventures of Annie can be continued in “Spider-Girls #1”! Stay tuned to Shoot the Breeze Comics for future info!

Overall, I really enjoyed “Renew Your Vows”. It is refreshing to see a family navigate the world of superheroes and villains. Houser has brought heart, charm, and wit to the Spider-Family. I have enjoyed the ride and look forward to seeing whatever else is in store for the Parkers. The art has also grown on me. The coloring is vibrant and clean. With all that said, here’s to the next adventure of the Parkers!
