“Super Cocoon” (Sideways #9 Review)

Sideways #9

Derek James is still stuck in the dark multiverse. Thanks to Perrus The Benevolent, Derek was saved from being destroyed by the self-imploding world. In this issue, we learn a little more about Perrus and even get a surprise guest at the end of the issue.

The Deets

Back on Earth, we sit in on the Helen James’ funeral (Derek’s mother). Turns out that Helen James worked at the Daily Planet and is really good friends with… ding ding…  you guessed it, Lois Lane. Lois and Clark come to pay their respects, and we also find out that Gotham PD is investigating Helen’s death.

Back in the Dark Multiverse, Sideways discovers that Perrus’ power to keep his domain intact is connecting to his ability to “feast” on his followers. This freaks Sideways out and a fight ensues. Our hero, without his powers, is no match for Perrus. Sideways is knocked unconscious and banished to the catacombs. Below, he finds a mysterious cocoon with a certain someone trapped inside.

My Take

This issue will remind you why you love comics! It has been my personal opinion that up until now Sideways has needed some star power to more ground him into the DC universe.  The big reveal at the end of the issue really did surprise me. I have been reading comics for a long time and that’s hard to do. The art is also great. I am really enjoying this story arc.
