(Summary) Matt Murdock is nearly killed when saving a young man from being hit by a truck. This near-death experience inspires him to double down on his investigation of Mayor Wilson Fisk, which may end up leading him down a very self-destructive path.

(Review) Look, this story’s called “The Death of Daredevil” and Charles Soule has said these will be his last issues on the book, so I don’t have any doubts as to how this will end. Even though I know death is never permanent in comics, it’s still disappointing that I’ll soon have to say goodbye to one of my favorite Marvel heroes for a while, especially after how good this run has been. That being said, if Daredevil has to die, this is shaping up to be a great story in which to do it. The parallel of Matt almost dying saving someone from getting hit by a truck and the accident that blinded him in the first place was not lost on me. I wasn’t sure about this story when it was first announced, but that opening scene completely sold me on it. The last few issues of this run have taken a slightly more lighthearted and fun tone, which is fine, but I always like Daredevil when it’s more somber, which I’m happy to say this issue is. You can just feel the impending doom on each page, making it a thoroughly engrossing read.

Phil Noto’s art continues to fit this book like a glove. I especially loved the coloring in this issue. There was some fantastic lighting, the standouts being a dream sequence near the beginning and a reveal at the very end. That last one was especially great to me, as the previous panels were dark and morose, leading to a reveal of a ray of light and hope for Matt’s happiness.
