Only Gwen Can Save Gwen, Gwen! (Ghost Spider #2 Comic Review)

Spider-Geddon Part 2: The Ballad of Gwen Stacy

Writer: Seanan McGuire

Artist: Rosi Kampe

Cover Artist: Bengal

Variant Cover Art: AFU Chan

What You Need to Know: Gwen Stacy has been through a lot since being bitten by a Radioactive Spider. But through it all, she has continued to persevere and even learned of Spider-People in other Worlds. When there is word of a threat of from the Inheritors, a deadly family of vampiric creatures that feast on the life force of Spider-men and women, Gwen is called into action! But when one Inheritor attacks Gwen and breaks her Interdimensional teleporter to cast her into another Universe, there is only one-person Gwen can always turn to; Peter Parker.

In This Issue: After a too close to call encounter with a strange woman called Green Goblin, Gwen confronts a startled Peter Parker. After another close call, Gwen tells her story about how she got here and how she needs help. But it isn’t that easy as Peter explains the story of HIS universe’s Spider-Man, which happened to be his friend Harry Osborn, and his Gwen Stacy who happens to be Green Goblin. Through tragic events, Gwen is lost to the persona of the Goblin and is the only one who can help our Gwen with the technology to get her back to her friends. Peter decides to take Gwen to see Mary Jane so the 3 of them can come up with a plan of attack, and boy is MJ not happy to see her. But peace is made (for now) and the three decide to go after Gwen before she can come after them.

Normally, I try not to spoil anything in the review so that when you do read the comic (you had better btw) you are surprised when you turn the page. But I didn’t feel that Gwen being the Goblin was much of a spoiler even just from the few pages we saw of her in the first issue. Besides, when it comes to Gwen in any World, there is a Peter Parker, a Henry Osborn and a Mary Jane so it’s just a matter of backstory. Which this one is pretty hard to read through just cause it’s so sad. This is also a different Peter then we normally read and it’s kind of gets you mad a little the way he talks to Gwen and it’s not very Parker-ish. But maybe that’s a good thing so we can differentiate between the two.

Summary
Gwen has a lot to take care of and being stuck in another world isn’t one she wants. What she feels she NEEDS to be doing is saving her friends from the Inheritors but instead, she is stuck helping this world’s Peter Parker save his Universe from the threat of the Green Goblin, who may also be the only one that can help Gwen!
